Actually, this one is kind of legit. I’ve seen this car driving around Horizon City, and it is FAST. I know jack about Beetles, but I would wager that he is NOT rocking the stock motor.

Since that one isn’t the joke that we expect it to be, here’s one that’s a little more unreasonable...although...I do kind of like it. Just not for three gees. Maybe one and a half?

The VW guy actually wrote “no low ballers, I know what I have” (TT)

Unfortunately there’s several things about that engine that I think would need to be changed if one wanted a reliable car. Otherwise looks ok.

Mighty maxes can be down right evil. Drop in a turbo 4G and you have an Evo with a pickup bed, that no one not in the know would expect.

Yeah, like the oil pump? That’s more than fairly important.

I saw “fast Beetle” and was thinking it was one of the newer ones. There is something about taking a relatively ugly/pedestrian looking “new Beetle” which has a 2.0t in it and throwing all the GTI/aftermarket goodies on it + chip, etc and having a heck of a sleeper.

The fact it “just needs” a new oil pump makes me want to run away screaming unless i already have the replacement engine going into it...

Yep, how bad could it be to require a new oil pump? Due to that it likely needs new cams, piston rings, etc.

Ha, I’ve seen that beetle a few times going down North Kenazo and Eastlake, I thought it was nice, but I did not know it was pretty quick.

First time I saw him, it was around 10pm and he passed me on Darrington. When I sped up a bit to get a better look, he looked over his shoulder at me, then dropped the hammer and bolted right quick. I think he thought I was challenging him or something.

And for only $1500, I might be willing to take on that project. But not for $3k.

I figure if you’ve lived in the greater El Paso area for more than two years, by then you’re likely off the hype-train of “Chicosisthegreatestthingeverohmygodyoutotallyhavetotryit” and you merely recognize it for what it is: decent, cheap , delicious food which has more value in social currency than nutrition (come on, no one ever goes to get Chico’s alone, except for the person who just had Chico’s for the first time and then drives from Cruces once a week just to eat it for a whole semester...). I’d guess that trying to trade Chico’s tacos to an El Pasoan for their car would be like offering an Iowan a couple baskets full of corn, or a Virginian a suitcase full of tobacco leaves, or a Floridian a bus full of batcrap crazy lunatics.

It’d be a fun Craiglist joke to play on someone, though. “Your ad says OBO. My best offer is half a 30-pack of Bud Light, two-singles-and-fries from Chicos every week for the next two years, and a breakfast at Crave on your birthday. You got a Carfax?”

Born and raised there. been living in “East Texas” (austin area) since late college though. I havent been back in about 3 years. My family has Riviera Salsa shipped in because there isn’t much good stuff around here.
